HÉCTOR RALAT-SOTOMAYOR, AIA
President

Héctor is a registered architect, with over 20 years of experience in development, project management, planning, and design. He has held leadership positions in corporate and governmental organizations.
As Director at the Puerto Rico Land Administration, he lead a team of professionals in the disciplines of architecture, engineering, and property appraisal, to promote private and public projects developments such as hotels, medical facilities, affordable housing, industrial facilities, among others.
Héctor is currently a Senior Designer at Marvel Architects, and a board member at the American Institute of Architects, Puerto Rico Chapter.

Monique Lugo-López is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón. Monique Lugo-López is a NCARB certified, registered architect, licensed to practice in Puerto Rico with over 23 years of experience in the fields of architecture and construction. Monique graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters in Architecture in 1996.
Afterwards, she interned in various sole practitioner architecture firms in Puerto Rico gaining ample experience in residential, institutional, commercial and hospitality design projects. Since 1996, Monique has been an active member of El Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She is a former board member of the AIA Puerto Rico Chapter. As part of her commitment to social transformation, she currently sits on the Board of Escuela con Causa, in Guaynabo, the first charter in Puerto Rico.

Raphael Osuna Segarra is the Associate Program Director of Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico. He earned his undergraduate studies from the UPR School of Architecture and received his MArch, with a minor in Landscape Architecture, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. In the past years Raphael worked as Project Manager and Designer at the Design & Construction Office of the Municipality of Bayamón leading the Urban Center Revitalization Program initiatives.
​
He also has been an Adjunct Professor of the undergraduate program at the UPR School of Architecture since 2012, teaching the second and third year design studio sequence. Raphael has always been related to the arts and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Museo de Arte de Bayamón.

ROBERTO GUADALUPE CRUZ, AIA

Roberto is a registered architect. He has worked on various architectural firms in diverse projects such as educational, retail, commercial, industrial, and residential, from proposal to construction administration. Roberto focuses on design coordination and documentation to facilitate progress during construction, encouraging cooperation along project team members. Roberto received a BA in Environmental Design, a Master’s degree in Architecture, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, all from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.

JORGE F. RAMIREZ BUXEDA, AIA

Jorge F. Ramírez Buxeda AIA, LEED AP is a Puerto Rico licensed architect. In 1993 he completed a BA at Harvard University and in 1996 a MArch from the University of Virginia. In January 2000 he founded the architecture, planning and landscape services firm BCJR, Inc. The firm transitioned in 2004 to become Ramírez Buxeda Arquitectos, PSC of which he is currently the principal architect. Since 2010 he is a member and vice-president of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación por la Arquitectura and since 2015 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carlos Beltrán Baseball Academy, located in the Municipality of Florida, Puerto Rico.

In academia he served as design instructor at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico’s School of Architecture from 1997 to 1998 and was a member of the design faculty at the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Architecture from 2005 to 2016.

MIRAIDA RODRÍGUEZ, ASSOC. AIA

Miraida Rodriguez Muñiz earned a BA in Architecture in 2014 and a BA in Business Administration, majoring in Project Manager in 2015 from the Polytechnical University of Puerto Rico. As a student, Miraida worked as the Continuing Education Coordinator of the Colegio de Arquitectos y Paisajistas de Puerto Rico (Professional College of Architects and Landscape Architects of Puerto Rico). She coordinated continuing education seminars and workshops for the collegiate. In 2016 she studied in Italy at the Istituto Europeo Di Design in Milan.
She completed a Master in Strategy and Product Design in 2016. She wrote a thesis titled Flooded in Tires. She studied the problem of the disposal of tires in Puerto Rico and worldwide. In her thesis, she proposed the possibilities of the reuse of tires through the up-cycling process as raw material for new products. After Hurricane María, she worked as Federal Emergency Response Official with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). One of her main responsibility was the assessment of property damaged by the Hurricane throughout Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Currently, Miraida is the Executive Director of the Colegio de Arquitectos y Paisajistas de Puerto Rico.
RAQUEL L. MARRERO AIA

Raquel Marrero has worked as a team designer and project coordinator at Marvel Marchand for 18 years. Her responsibilities have included all the phases of design and construction processes for a large number of major commercial and residential projects, including the award-winning renovation of the Vanderbilt and La Concha Hotels in San Juan, HUD’s initiative for elderly housing at Valle Dorado in Utuado, and lately of New York-based residential projects like Roosevelt Park, Bedford Union Armory and others.
Raquel received BA in Environmental Design from the University of Puerto Rico and a MArch I from UCLA. Prior to joining Marvel Marchand, Raquel worked at architecture firms in Puerto Rico, as well as in Los Angeles and Mexico City. Currently, Raquel serves as Director in the Marvel Marchand Architects.

MARICARMEN CONAWAY

Maricarmen Conaway Mediavilla, AIA is a Puerto Rico licensed architect. She obtained her B. Arch. from The School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico in 2006 and a Master in Housing from the Polytechnic University of Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Maricarmen also holds a BA in Public Communication from the American University in Washington, DC.
She has experience in the conception, planning, development and construction of commercial, industrial, residential, and historic documentation projects. After working in various architectural firms, she founded MC ESTUDIO DE ARQUITECTURA in 2013, an architecture design firm interested in developing concepts of architecture, design and landscape through a collaborative process.
Since 2019, she is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación por la Arquitectura de Puerto Rico, where she currently serves as secretary. In academia, she served as design instructor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico’s School of Architecture in 2016.
EUGENIO RAMÍREZ, AIA

Eugenio is the past president of our chapter, the AIA Puerto Rico chapter. He has also served as member of the Governing Board of the CAAPPR (2009-2011) as Director of the Technical Professional Committee.
He founded ERERAS arquitectos in 2008 and has since received various architecture and design awards locally and internationally. Additionally Eugenio is a full time professor of architecture at the EIDA Universidad del Turabo. He obtained his BA from The School of Architecture of the UPR in 1997 and his Master of Architecture from Virginia Tech in 2000.
